Today, MRADSIM is undoubtedly an extremely useful tool to support design and verification processes in any sector where it is necessary to simulate interactions with radiation (e.g. in the aerospace domain, but also in IT, nuclear, and medical sectors).
MRADSIM is a software that was initially developed within the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Perugia.
The need arose to simulate the reaction to the effects of radiation on a satellite that was to be sent into space. The investigation and simulation process for such an advanced and large system led researchers to undertake a lengthy and in-depth analysis and experimentation journey. During this phase, they developed a prototype software that would be suitable not only for that satellite but for any other system to be tested.
Conversion tool: from CAD format files to GDML format (input for the simulation backend).
Simulation tool: based on Geant4, an open-source particle physics software developed at CERN.
Graphical user interface: modern and intuitive, allowing the user (even if not an expert in programming) to visualize the geometry of their project, easily set simulation parameters, and view the obtained results.
Below are some features of the developed versions.
The MRADSIM converter is an essential tool for converting files, designed to easily transform CAD file formats into GDML, which is essential for simulation applications. With a user-friendly interface, the converter streamlines the conversion process, allowing users to manage complex geometries quickly and effectively.
The two versions, ConverterFree and ConverterPro, offer specific functionalities for different needs, ranging from basic to professional, ensuring accessibility and power in one solution.
This tool allows you to convert STEP files, created using geometric design applications, into GDML files. It is available for free for non-commercial purposes and is used in major research institutions worldwide, such as NASA, ESA, MIT-Boston, CERN, and universities around the globe.
This is the commercial version of the converter, containing more tools than the free version. It has various innovative features for converting and modifying all types and sizes of STEP, STL, IGS, and VRML file geometries into GDML.
The MRADSIM Simulator is an advanced tool designed for simulating the effects of radiation on various components, making it indispensable for applications across multiple sectors. With a focus on user experience, the simulator features an intuitive interface that allows users to easily set parameters and analyze results.
Equipped with powerful analysis tools, the MRADSIM Simulator enables detailed studies of radiation dose deposition and other critical effects, providing essential insights for engineers and researchers. The software supports customizable simulation parameters, allowing users to tailor their analyses to specific requirements and scenarios.
Additionally, the simulator accommodates various radiation sources and integrates particle flux data to ensure comprehensive and accurate simulations. Whether for space, medical, or other applications, the MRADSIM Simulator empowers users to conduct thorough radiation analyses, enhancing safety and reliability in their projects.
MRADSIM offers two specialized simulator versions tailored to different applications: MRADSIM Dose and MRADSIM Space. Each version is designed to meet the specific needs and challenges of its respective field, providing advanced functionalities and detailed analyses.
In addition to the functions of ConverterPro, it includes a basic version of the simulation tool, with the main analysis tools for studying radiation dose. It includes innovative analysis tools enhanced by artificial intelligence.
It contains all the functions of DOSE, along with advanced features specific to the space sector. It supports various scenarios of orbital and interplanetary radiation, ensuring precise and detailed analyses for the protection of space devices.
